PR European School Karlsruhe, 29.10-03.11.1999
Introduction
Preface by PR Working Group of AEGEE Europe
Why PR European School?
Without any doubt AEGEE has a lot to offer: language courses, conferences on any kind of subject, case study trips, exchange programs, help for Erasmus-students, contacts to young people all around Europe and much more.
The problem is that hardly anyone knows that! It is true that the absolute number of AEGEE members of 20.000 is impressive, but compared to the total number of students in Europe this number amounts only to one percent of all European students. In a city of 30.000 students only 20-30 young Europeans work actively for the interdisciplinary students organization while the latter is not only open to students of all faculties but also to young professionals from 18 to 35! In short AEGEE lacks effective PR.
In order to change this situation the Public Relation Working Group of AEGEE Europe, which has been reestablished in January 1999, decided to offer AEGEE-members an internal education event which trains the PR responsibles of how to make an effective PR for AEGEE. We first organized such a school in Groningen in May, where we found out that we have many motivated members in our network who are very talented for making a creative and successful PR. This experience encouraged us to organize a second PRES within the same year.
So, to keep it short: On behalf of our working group I would like to welcome you to this event and I hope you will have some fruitful days here. I would like to thank AEGEE Karlsruhe for their great work and all speakers, tutors and everybody who has been involved in organizing this event, which due to our opinion is very important for AEGEE, because (never forget that!) "Good PR changes everything"!
On behalf of the Public Relation Working Group of AEGEE Europe
