ACADEMY ACTIVITIES

*** ES2 Oviedo - Amazing start into 2008! ***

Active participants - amazing programme - ideas and enthusiam - project development for AEGEE - dreaming AEGEE and youth work - motivation - perfect local organisation ...

These are just a few words, trying to capture the atmosphere of the European School 2 in Oviedo! The gathering of the future AEGEE leaders in the North of Spain went perfectly: Participants attending this ES2 were extremely motivated and active! The local organisers, led by Virigina from Oviedo, were accomodating the group best to suit the training and invented a creative social programme to suit the needs of this specific education event. The team of trainers led by Maria worked harmoniously with the external trainers Sabine and Zara and benefited very much from their presence. The group enjoyed the visits of Burcu Becermen, leading the session about project development and Silvia Baita and Kim Zwisterloot, contributing to the parts "AEGEE past and present". In the casework, participants were working on the development of four project ideas: the Cyprus Project, the involvement of the network into the flagship project "Changing Landscapes", a European Democratic
Online Society and the European Dimension of High School Students. All teams had the chance to undergo their specific part of the project development path and then exchange with the others. During the EBM Delft, one of the teams will have the chance to present their project idea and get feedback and input from the network.

The board would like to thank Maria and her team very much for the devotion, patience and energy for making this European School 2 a reality!

*** Academy Board Meeting Enschede ***

From 19 - 20 January the board gathered in Enschede for its bi-annual meeting. Due to his recent move and new job Patrik unfortunately could not join. After intense debating, we managed to set our priorities for the remaining term and agree on the most crucial work to be completed until then. Next to this, the further advancement of the development of Human Resources Work for AEGEE by Academy was discussed. During the members meeting we had the pleasure to enjoy the company of Marloes! Ankie will be preparing the minutes and we hope to share them soon
with you.

*** ES1 Enschede ***

While the local organisation is working full speed to get everything arranged. Unfortunately there is no news from Youth Application yet. This week, the staff has been selected by manager Daniel and we are happy to present it to you here: Radu (case-manager), Carla, Francesca, Julia, Nadine, Ola, Patrick, Sideau and Wim. At the same time, the applications for ES1 participants are open and we would like
you to encourage suitable participant you might know! Application deadline is 28th of January. We are confident to organise another good ES1 for the participants in March!

*** PRES1 Rijeka ***

PRES1 Rijeka will finally take place between the 24th and the 30th of April 2008. Marek Urban was selected as manager in the beginning of the year and is now keeping himself busy informing himself of all the evaluation outcomes of the PRES1 Augsburg in order to prepare a even better PRES1. You can find out more of Marek's adventures as PRES1 from his blog: http://presmanager.blogspot.com/ In the meantime
AEGEE-Rijeka already managed to arranged a lot of the necessary logistics and more is on the way.

*** T4T Bucuresti: Planning continues ***

The last bits and pieces are currently prepared for the Youth
Application which will be handed in through AEGEE-Bucuresti on 1st February. Ama, Irina, Julia, Kim and Patrik are working hard on finishing all on time. In the meantime Kim had the possibility to visit ES2 Oviedo in order to get an impression from the training style and methods used, but also to meet ES2 participant Irina, who is the local co-ordinator in Bucuresti. Julia met Kim in Utrecht right afterthe board meeting to talk about developing the content.
The team is still looking forward to applications from potential trainers! You can still apply as a trainer for the T4T, no matter less or more experienced trainer. Check the open call by Kim, recentlypublished on Academy-L (Deadline: 10 February).

*** PRES2 ***

We are currently working with PRWG-board on assessing the
possibilities for having a PRES2 still in 2008. In order to allow
enough time to develop a fitting concept for the coming PRES2, we are discussing the possibility to postponing the event to Spring 2009. For details, please contact Julia.

WELCOME TO NEW ACADEMY MEMBERS :-)

Robin Verschuren
We are happy to welcome Robin in our group! Robin has gathered many experiences in AEGEE and now wants to become active as a trainer. The former vice-speaker of NetCom and President of AEGEE-Leuven has
already some ideas for implementing a local training on Fundraising. Besides, as freshly elected Speaker of the Visa-Freedom-Fighters will continue her AEGEE-engagement there.

Piret Kukk
Welcome to another former NetCommie! This former speaker of the NetCom is now looking for the possibility to give something back from her experiences to new AEGEE members and hence to contribute to the association.

SPOTLIGHT

Trainer-Participant Relationship:
At some point or the other, have we not all asked ourselves how to treat participants? If the personal relations are influencing the training? If we have a favorite participant or one with whom we feel a tension right from the beginning?
This article from the European Training Magazine "Coyote" analyses the trainer-participant relationship and give some ideas on how to deal with it (3 pg.):

Turning Workshops into Modules:
For all those, looking for ways to capture their workshops, sessions; to archive them and re-use - this article offers a way on how to do so (3 pg.):

IT HAPPENED ...

That Patrick was elected Speaker of the Dance WG ... since we always suspected his dancing skills, we do not quiet know how he managed to beat the infamous Freddy Lopomo in the final election. But we wish him good luck and clean floorboards for his future career :P.

After numerous unsuccessful attempts it finally happened that Julia and Ankie got to meet in Tallinn. After a history of being in exactly the wrong spot at the wrong moment, the sequence was finally broken. And the girls got the chance to have a nice and relaxing evening together.

The board was shocked to find Radu looking completely different in 2008. The explanation was that he had set his new year's resolution for 2008 on going to look like Santa Claus by this Christmas ... or at least, this is the main explanation we could see for the change in his face. Let's get started practicing some carols for december "Radu
Claus is coming to town" ;-).

Wim received an award for the most "resistable host" during the board meeting in Enschede: While his house was invaded by germs and viruses brought along by his fellow board members and while tons of tissues, tea and honey were consumed in his presence, he remained resistant to
all illness attacks and still managed to be a perfectly charming host :-).

Patrik is getting settled with his new job and apartment in Hamburg. Moving seemed to turn out easy: While Patrik was sitting in his office, his father and brother carried all the furniture and other things up to the 4th floor - coming home he found everything done.

Ankie (concluding about Academy and her task): Academy is a
professional organisation with a southern inspired time concept .... so minutes are delivered in time
