A New Idea, A New Event - Concept Development Meeting

2006-08-22
This month, at Academy calendar, we see that an event titled ‘Concepts Development Meeting’ is scheduled for 10-12 November 2006 which will be organised for the first time in Academy history. We directed our questions to Maria Nomikou, speaker of AEGEE-Academy, to learn more about the event.

Maria, when was the idea of organising the ‘Concept Development Meeting’ born?
During the last term, Betina Szkudlarek and me, after exchanging some e-mails at Academy-L, came up with an idea of organising a meeting for developing future internal education event’s concepts. From the moment I got elected to Academy board, I introduced the idea to the new board and we all agreed that we need to organise this event as soon as possible. So, now we have it!

Can you tell us more about the event?
The aim of the meeting is to create two working groups who will work on the concepts of Fund Raising European School (FRES) and European School 2 (ES2). To reach this aim, we will have several sessions to discuss the problems of AEGEE in terms of human resources, future of Academy, the development of non-formal education and finally with the help of our coordinators through the workshops and the interactive discussions, we expect to finalize two Internal Education Event's concepts that will be used as drafts in the future.

Could we tell that the AEGEE-Academy is trying to adapt itself and its training policy to the development of the association and ‘CDM’ is going to be organised because of changing needs of network?
In the past, the development of the concept of most of our events was done by the manager of the event and his/her team. The result was having every year different concept made by different people. Now we felt the need that it is time to collect information about the needs of AEGEE, use the experiences from the past and finally create concepts influenced by the different backgrounds of all the people present in the CDM. Therefore, I do not think we need to adapt our training policy only to the needs of our association, which of course is obvious, but also to the new experiences and training backgrounds of our people.

At the end, what difference do you think the event will make?
I have to admit I have great expectations from this meeting. Well developed concepts, a chance to bring some of our new members in contact with some of the older ones, a chance to activate our members generally which is something we really need. Let’s see... I really hope we will manage to make this step forward!
