Interview

Two managers..Two friends..

2005-06-23
Gosia Kruszyna and Tine Bader...two experienced members of AEGEE, current managers of the next ES2 in Ankara, are replying to our questions...

1. Could you introduce yourselves shortly? When and where did you meet each other?

We are Gosia Kruszyna and Tine Bader - two girls with many similarities. We were both born in the year 1981, our home locals both start with "P" (Gosia is from Poznan, Tine from Passau), we were both presidents of our antennae, both Network Commissioners during more or less the same period and we were both board members of the AEGEE-Academy for the post of PR. So now it should be quite easy to imagine that we first met each other at the NetCom meeting of the Agora Amsterdam 2002. But only four months later, we really became friends at the European School 1 in Pécs which was for both of us our first experience as a trainer at the European level.

2. How is to share the position of manager especially for an event like ES2?

Not only are our AEGEE CVs quite similar, we fortunately also have comparable points of view especially on educational matters. Therefore, it was the perfect decision for us to go for the co-management. Of course we were totally aware of the fact that co-management has failed in quite some cases in AEGEE history. Thus we did our best to abolish disturbing factors right from the beginning and to have a very clear task division among the two of us. Besides, we've already met twice in Berlin at the most critical stages of the preparations and we support each other in every respect. We certainly also face many challanges as for instance a slower communication process as we share all information. Yet, the secret to handle this issue is to draw up a timeline that is much more generous than it would be with other events.
So in all: Ironically, both of us never really had in mind sharing such a position once in our lives, but we clearly opted in favour as we knew each other really well when starting off with the preparations. And actually for Tine, Gosia was the only person in the network she could have imagined such a cooperation with, and vice versa!

3. You are now working on the concept of the ES2. What are your expectations from this ES?

Quite simple, yet ambitious: We clearly expect to see the most motivated AEGEE members as participants in Ankara and to bring forward the future generation of people active at the European level :-).

4. How will the participants of the Ankara ES benefit from it, both personally and from the point of view of AEGEE?

In short? If they are ready for drastic changes and willing to face their own potential, they can only profit as far as self-development is concerned because only if we know ourselves really well, we can properly guide others. At the same time, participants will learn from the most experienced project managers in AEGEE.
ES2 is an advanced European leadership training. We will not stick to conveying hard skills that will be forgotten again in no time, but we offer real insights. At ES2 Ankara, the participants will meet people who are exactly as motivated as they themselves. Their motivation will even increase, and they are likely to keep in touch with each other and develop future cooperation among them.
